Fleet Overview

About the WestJet Fleet

WestJet is Canada’s second-largest airline, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. Founded in 1994 as a low-cost carrier, the airline has grown into a full-service operator flying to over 100 destinations across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia — with seasonal South American service launching in late 2026.

The mainline fleet is an all-Boeing operation comprising roughly 150 aircraft. The backbone of domestic and short-haul international flying is the Boeing 737 Next Generation family — approximately 35 737-700s and 55 737-800s — alongside a growing fleet of about 59 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The 737-700 seats 132 passengers in two cabins (Premium 2-2 and Economy 3-3), while both the 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 now appear in multiple published layouts ranging from 174-seat two-cabin versions to 189-seat all-economy configurations. WestJet has also placed a major order for the Boeing 737 MAX 10, with over 100 on order and options — making it the launch customer for the type.

For long-haul international routes, WestJet operates seven Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in a three-class, 320-seat configuration: 16 lie-flat Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 28 Premium Economy seats at 2-3-2, and 276 Economy seats at 3-3-3 (including 60 Extended Comfort seats with extra legroom). The Dreamliners are based exclusively at Calgary International Airport and serve destinations including London, Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Tokyo Narita, Seoul Incheon, and — starting November 2026 — São Paulo. A further seven 787-9s are on order (with four options), doubling the widebody fleet to support new long-haul growth.

In addition to the mainline fleet, WestJet’s regional subsidiary WestJet Encore operates De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 (Q400) turboprops, connecting smaller Canadian communities to the airline’s Calgary and Vancouver hubs. The WestJet Group also includes the Sunwing Vacations Group, acquired in 2023, which integrates the Sunwing Vacations and WestJet Vacations brands into North America’s largest vacation package operation.

WestJet is not currently a member of any major airline alliance, but maintains codeshare agreements with Delta Air Lines, Air France, KLM, Korean Air, Emirates, Qantas, and many others. In 2025, Delta Air Lines, Korean Air, and Air France-KLM acquired a combined 25% stake in WestJet, fuelling speculation about a future SkyTeam membership.
